Disabled Welfare Society (DWS)
Disabled Welfare Society (DWS) is a non-political and non- government voluntary organization established in 2004 by a group of committed individuals under the leadership of Morjina Ahmed, a visually impaired woman and she is the founder general secretary of the organization. Since then DWS is working to promote equal rights and participation of the disadvantaged and poor people with disabilities in national development activities through capacity building training, advocacy and awareness rising.
Bangladesh government has taken many initiatives to solve problem of marginalized groups mainly for person with disabilities. DWS thinks that beside government, NGOs can support person with disabilities to enhance their development. Thus DWS was established and it has been running its various types of programs for person with disabilities to promote them in mainstream development process.
Key Objectives of the organization
- To raise mass awareness on disability through advocacy and different campaign.
- To promote basic human rights for persons with disabilities.
- To promote access to the existing public services.
- To enhance the literacy rate and educational levels of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the country.
- To promote human rights/civic rights of the persons with disabilities mobilizing local resources.
- To promote Health facilities for the deprived and vulnerable persons with disabilities.
- To promote education & employment opportunities for the persons with disabilities.
- To promote education & employment opportunities for the persons with disabilities.
- To organize the disabled, disadvantaged and orphan girls, woman with disabilities (WWDS) and the members of their families and the destitute women into functional groups to participate in suitable program for improvement of their life situation.
- To organize and implement suitable programs for socio economic development of the women with disabilities (PWDs) including their families and the society as self respected members with dignity. It is so needed, as the disabled women are still remained on mercy of the society.
- Promotion and safeguarding the human rights of the disables & destitute women. Develop and participate in all spheres of other members of the society.
