On 20 October 2019, the Disabled Welfare Society (DWS) organized a cane distribution and discussion program for visually impaired individuals to observe World White Cane Safety Day (15 October).
The event was attended by Ms. Morjina Ahmed, Executive Director of DWS; Mr. Jahangir Alam, General Secretary of VIPS; Mr. Amit Hasan, Executive Director of IGL; and Mr. Mahbub Ahsan, along with DWS officers and staff.
The program began with a welcome speech by Ms. Morjina Ahmed, followed by a session on the significance of using white canes, delivered by Ms. Mushtari Begum, Executive Member of DWS. During the event, white canes were distributed to visually impaired participants, enabling them to navigate safely and independently.
The program successfully combined awareness-raising with direct support, reflecting DWS’s commitment to empowering visually impaired persons.
