Background information:

Disabled Welfare Society (DWS) is a non-political and non- government voluntary organization established in 2004 by a group of committed individuals under the leadership of Morjina Ahmed, a visually impaired woman and she is the founder general secretary of the organization. Since then DWS is working to promote equal rights and participation of the disadvantaged and poor people with disabilities in national development activities through capacity building training, advocacy and awareness rising.

Bangladesh government has taken many initiatives to solve problem of marginalized groups mainly for person with disabilities. DWS thinks that beside government, NGOs can support person with disabilities to enhance their development. Thus DWS was established and it has been running its various types of programs for person with disabilities to promote them in mainstream development process.

Mission/Goal:

DWS mission is to contribute towards achieving and ultimate development of the person with disabilities and their participation in the development activities through capacity-building, the advocacy, lobbying and campaign.

Vision:

DWS envisions that rights, dignity and equal participation of persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are ensured in the community.

Purpose:

Disabled Welfare Society (DWS) has been working for the improvement of social, economic, educational and cultural status of men, women and children with disabilities of the country. Since its inception, it has been providing various supports to the persons with disabilities (PWDs) for their empowerment.
