On 27 October 2018, the Disabled Welfare Society (DWS), in collaboration with the National Foundation for the Development of the Disabled Persons (JPUF), organized a cane distribution and discussion program at the Public Library, University of Dhaka, Shahbagh, to observe World White Cane Safety Day.
The event was attended by the Managing Director of JPUF as the Chief Guest, and the Executive Director of BARDO as the Special Guest. Also present were Ms. Mushtari Begum, Chairman of DWS, Ms. Morjina Ahmed, Executive Director of DWS, along with DWS officers and staff.
The program began with a welcome address by Ms. Morjina Ahmed, followed by a discussion on the importance of white cane usage delivered by Ms. Mushtari Begum, Executive Member of DWS. During the event, white canes were distributed to visually impaired participants, enabling them to navigate safely and independently.
The program successfully combined awareness-raising with direct support, highlighting DWS’s commitment to empowering persons with visual impairments.
